About Me
Aloha, my name is Melisa (pronounced ME-Lisa). I’m originally from San Diego, CA, but now I’m lucky to live on the beautiful island of Oahu. I’m a wife to a wonderful husband, and mother to 4 amazing adult children. I grew up in a household where my dad and mom both cooked amazing food. My dad is from the island of Guam so I grew up on great Chamorro food and my mom’s delicious Tex-Mex cooking.
Moving to Hawaii was a big step for me. Being new to the island I wanted to try different types of food and desserts.
Hawaii is known to be a melting pot of food, and wonderful desserts like rainbow shave ice, pastry dough filled with sweet Azuki beans, malasadas, and mochi. So I needed to get used to a different palate when it came to desserts. I was used to having island-style food, because of my dad’s cooking, but having sweet beans for dessert was something to get used to. Needless to say, I fell in love with it all. Which inspired me to make dishes that pleased my family.
I have always had a love for cooking and now baking. I love to try all different kinds of recipes from all kinds of cookbooks and websites. So, now that my husband and I are empty nesters I can focus on making fun and different dishes and baked goods. I will always reference back to the originator of the recipe and let you know if it worked out. So, come join me on this journey of discovering tested recipes from various cookbooks and food sites. Mahalo!
